Gelenkte Bilder. Propagandistische Sichtweisen und fotografische Inszenierungen der Reichshauptstadt
(2013)
Berlin als administratives und politisches Zentrum des NS-Regimes war die prominenteste und »produktivste« Bühne der öffentlichen Inszenierung nationalsozialistischer Machtentfaltung. “The Power of Images”, and in particular their emotional effect, is a common topos in historiography and other disciplines. Nevertheless it is not clear what the topos stands for. By exploring emotional responses to pictures, this article proposes a preliminary methodology for future case studies. Where do historians find their material when searching for emotional effects? In what ways do historians
actively produce the images they then analyse? This article debates these questions using photographs dating from the First World War to the War in Iraq in 2003.
